We back ambitious organisations and leaders who improve the lives of people living in poverty in the Arab world, particularly those working to economically empower women and improve children’s education.

At Alfanar, we look for social enterprises that share our values and meet the following criteria.

SEED Programme Eligibility Criteria

We put out calls for applications for specific SEED cycles, typically twice a year. SEED cycle social enterprises must meet the following criteria:

Legally registered as a company, nonprofit, or other relevant entity for at least one year;

At least two years of trading revenue (excluding grants), and working to increase financial sustainability through sale of goods and services;

A minimum cost recovery rate of 10%, and an impact on a minimum of 50 people per year;

Looking for and open to management support, organisational strengthening and capacity-building to grow;

A backable CEO and a strong management team;

Operate in Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan, or Palestine (specific programmes may extend beyond these countries);

Addressing at least one of our priority UN Sustainable Development Goals (4, 8, 10, or 12) – with gender equality as a cross-cutting priority;

And pass a due diligence check conducted by Alfanar.

SUSTAIN Programme Eligibility Requirements

Approximately 80% of our SUSTAIN social enterprises come from our SEED cycles. We also accept direct applications to our SUSTAIN programme for social enterprises that are further along in their development and already have a robust business plan in place. To qualify, SUSTAIN applicants must have:

A solid business plan;

A strong governance structure;

Clear impact measurement methodology;

Sustainable financial management;

Robust business model;

Experienced management team;
And commitment to one of our priority SDGs (4, 8, 10, or 12).
