The Arab region is one of the most vulnerable locations to climate change and is the most water-stressed in the world. By 2050, water availability is predicted to drop by 30%. Water scarcity combined with underdeveloped water management and farming approaches is resulting in detrimental cascading effects in the agricultural industry and amongst marginalised communities.

This is especially acute for countries such as Palestine which, despite small contributions to global carbon emissions, bear the most severe repercussions.The arid landscape of the region heightens the importance of sustainable water infrastructure and the burgeoning need for water support organisations to facilitate healthy and efficient water systems. Despite this, the region has seen a relatively small increase in efforts to combat the growing water crisis. This places an increased demand for initiatives that can reduce water waste and energy costs. 

The Organisation

Social enterprise Flowless responds to this challenge by optimising the efficiency of water systems for farmers and water utilities in Palestine and abroad. Founded in the West Bank, they have continued to grow their reach by pioneering technologically-driven methods that quickly detect faults in water systems and allow for remote management. 

Flowless’ systems have saved farmers 21% on energy and water costs while saving millions of litres of water each month. The Flowless mobile app and web platform enable farmers to leverage artificial intelligence for remote data interpretation and analysis – removing the need for time-consuming, manual water pump inspections.
