Samir Assaf was appointed Chief Executive of Global Banking and Markets in January 2011. He is a Group Managing Director and member of the Group Management Board of HSBC. In 2016, Mr. Assaf became the Group Managing Director responsible for the Middle East, North Africa and Turkey regions of HSBC. He is also Non-Executive Chairman of HSBC France, a role he has held since 2011. He has been a Member of the HSBC Germany Board since 2012, and became a Member of the Saudi British Bank Board in 2016. In May 2014, Mr. Assaf was appointed Chairman of the Global Financial Markets Association, a position he held for two-and-a-half years. Mr. Assaf was a founding member of the Association for Financial Markets in Europe. Mr. Assaf began his career in finance at Total. He joined CCF in 1994, which was acquired by HSBC in 2000. His former appointments include: Director of HSBC Bank PLC, HSBC Global Asset Management Limited and HSBC Bank Egypt SAE. He holds an MBA in Economics and International Finance from La Sorbonne University in Paris and a BSc degree in Finance from L'Institut d'Etudes Politiques in Paris.
